Divine Mercy Rosary and Chaplet

The Divine Mercy is one of my favorite devotions. The message is simple--Jesus wants us to turn from our sins, ask for His mercy for ourselves and others, be merciful to others, and to trust completely in His mercy. I have found this devotion to be very powerful in my own life, and I try to pause and say the prayers at 3:00pm, the hour of Divine Mercy.  The novena (nine day prayer) traditionally begins on Good Friday and concludes on Divine Mercy Sunday, the Sunday after Easter. But of course, you can begin the novena, pray the chaplet, or say the prayers at any time.  The chaplet may be said using regular rosary beads. As with the rosary, you may follow along on a free app.  Amen  is one of my favorites. It also contains the prayers for the novena. Begin my making the Sign of the Cross. "In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." Next, say the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Apostles' Creed. "Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, t...

How to Pray a Rosary

If you are new to praying the rosary, it may be helpful to follow along with an app , video or podcast. A search on platforms like YouTube, Spotify, or Apple will yield numerous results! Listen to a couple; you may find you prefer a certain voice or background music over the others. How to Pray a Rosary 1. Hold the crucifix and make the Sign of the cross. “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” 2. Still holding the crucifix, say the Apostles' Creed. “I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead, he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church...

Different Forms of Prayer

Prayer is communication with God, who is a real, divine Person.  I know that some people believe God is not real, and I believe it's because they haven't met Him and don't know Him. For those of us who do know Him and have felt His presence and love, nobody can convince us He's imaginary, any more than they could convince us that any other person we know that they haven't met is imaginary. People who have encountered God's love are willing to give up their lives rather than deny Him. And that peace and love we feel in His Presence is why we want to share Him with others. Catholics believe that there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to praying.  We have five main forms of prayer, or communication with our Loved One. 1. Blessing or Adoration is when we acknowledge God as our Creator and give Him all glory and honor. 2. Petition is where we ask Him for our needs and desires. 3. Intercession is where we ask God for things on behalf of others. When we "...

How It Began

I haven't really "done art" since my senior year in high school 30+ years ago (Art 1 with Coach Welch, God rest his soul.) And I haven't done much gardening, either. I used to make rosaries before I became busy with midwifery work, but my beads sat untouched for years. Until recently. Since having retire early due to a medical condition, I've spent more time in prayer and more time outdoors. It would be easy to become depressed when I don't feel as well and I'm not able to do as much as I use to do.  But I intentionally choose joy.  I turned my back patio area into a colorful, joyful prayer garden, and this is where I create a lot of my rosaries and art. I'm happy out here, surrounded by reminders of my faith, listening to the sound of the fountain and my favorite music, interacting with the cats and cardinals and hummingbirds. Art, making rosaries, music, and gardening have been healing therapy for me. I hope my creations can also bring joy and comfor...
